Multipy Your Book Marketing Success With Onine Promotion SIte Multiply.com

As you begin to use social media to boost your online marketing presence for your book, I suggest that you take a look at Multiply.com

For instance, I'm using the blog editor at multiply.com to post a message for my new multiply.com blog, while posting the same entry to my Book Marketing Success blog and other marketing blogs.

That's three more mentions for me (Warren Whitlock) and my author and book publishing keywords.. plus I'm reaching millions of readers on the multiply.com service.

I'm just getting started... using tools to import a list of contact to see who is here.. then uploading videos for additional posting, along with photos, other blogs, and more.

Take a look now at http://whitlock.multiply.com and post a comment to let me know how you will use it to attract new readers for your book and online promotions.

The e2 that got me

What a bummer.

Just in the middle of http://bookformoms.com and decided to find out who signs that song that was stuck in my head.

Got the info (some guy named Powter), but not before clicking on some lyrics site that gave me an ugly thing called e2games.

Looks like it's time to revive this project.

Stay tuned

WSJ.com - Ex-AOL Engineer Sentenced To 15 Months in Spam Case

WSJ.com - Ex-AOL Engineer Sentenced To 15 Months in Spam Case: " A former America Online software engineer was sentenced Wednesday to 15 months in prison in connection with the theft of millions of AOL customer email addresses, which were sold to Internet spammers."

WSJ.com - Dueling Hackers Hit Firms' Computers

WSJ.com - Dueling Hackers Hit Firms' Computers: "At least six worms have appeared in the past few days, taking advantage of one of the Windows' vulnerabilities announced by Microsoft last week. The speed with which the vulnerability has been exploited highlights the challenges facing computer network administrators, as they race to patch systems before hackers can take advantage of newly disclosed holes.
A first round of attacks that began Sunday had appeared to abate by Monday. Yesterday, an apparently separate group launched a more aggressive attack, scanning the entire Internet to search for unpatched systems. The new worm was spreading at a rate of one new machine a second, or 30 times faster than the earlier round, according to David Maynor, a security researcher at Internet Security Systems Inc. in Atlanta.
Once a machine became infected, it received additional instructions from a central server via an Internet-messaging system before attempting to infect additional machines on its corporate network, he said. Hackers have been organizing such infected machines into 'bot' networks that can be used to launch extortion schemes, spam or 'phishing' attacks, which seek to trick users into providing personal information."

WSJ.com - Real Time

WSJ.com - Real Time: "Sometimes it seems people love to hate online ads, lustily complaining about everything from animated banner ads that distract the eye to pop-ups and hard-to-find 'close' buttons. To say nothing of the anger over adware and spyware, sleazy cousins whose misdeeds often get conflated in people's minds with run-of-the-mill advertising annoyances.
People like to complain about offline ads too, of course, but there's a difference: The online world offers a host of tools for suppressing ads and the technical infrastructure that supports them. The adoption of ad-blocking tools has led to tumult in the online world, as even a cursory tour of recent headlines will show. Consider marketers' efforts to get antispyware-program makers to stop identifying tracking cookies as potential threats in sweeps of consumers' machines, as discussed by our WSJ.com colleague David Kesmodel last month. Or our print colleague Walt Mossberg's most-recent Personal Technology column, challenging the idea that tracking cookies aren't a form of spyware. Or the Journal's report about the internal debate at Microsoft over acquiring Claria, an adware maker which became infamous in its days as Gator Corp."

eWEEK.com Security Blog

eWEEK.com Security Blog: "had reported the Paypal phish I recently blogged to Yahoo! because it was hosted on Yahoo! Domains and registered through their services. Their abuse people finally got back to me and I have to say I can't believe how obtuse their response is: 'Unfortunately, your message to us was missing the full Internet headers. Without the full headers we will be unable to further investigate this matter. '

THE POINT WAS NOT THE E-MAIL!

The point, as I said in my abuse report to them, was 'The paypal phish below is hosted on www.paypal.com.webscr.info which is registered with and hosted on Yahoo'.

Incredibly, they ignored my message to the extent of leaving the site up and running. I thought it had been brought down, but it's still up."

Phishing Attempts Decrease, Report Shows

Phishing Attempts Decrease, Report Shows: "Postini said in a statement that it blocked 9 million phishing e-mail messages in April, whereas APWG received reports of 13,353 phishing scams in March, according to the group's March report.

More aggressive spam filtering by Internet service providers and corporations may also be reducing the number of phishing e-mail messages that make it into user in-boxes, he said.

Despite the decrease in phishing e-mail sent to APWG, the group noted an almost 7 percent increase in the number of Web servers linked to phishing attacks: from 2,686 in February to 2,870 in March, suggesting that the problem is still growing.

'That's a substantial chunk of machinery,' Cassidy said."

The Lone Codeman

Just saw an interesting article in the Swedish newsletter Uppsnappat. It's about another way of spreading Trojans, virus, worms etc. According to F-Secure internet users could get Trojans if they by mistake spell google.com wrong. One example is the site googkle.com (do NOT try this one now ;)). These boys picked a name which is easy to accidentally type since 'k' is just next to 'l'.

F-Secure reports that the visitors will get pop-up links which leads to websites trying to install Trojans. Apparently they are to be of the 'phishing' type and were created to especially get details about internet banks from the visitor. Another is reported to show false virus warning messages to get users to visit links which will only lead to new infected websites."

The New York Times > New York Region > New York Sues a Marketer on Use of Internet Spyware

The New York Times > New York Region > New York Sues a Marketer on Use of Internet Spyware: "In recent years, companies have tried to sneak what consumer advocates call parasitic software into computers that tracks users' browsing habits, but government inquiries into such practices have been rare, said Ben Edelman, a Harvard University researcher who studies spyware. Last year the Federal Trade Commission brought suit against two companies that made false claims to induce users to install their programs, he said.
The spyware technology erodes the trust of customers, slows their computer functions and wastes time deleting it, all things that hurt e-commerce, said Ari Schwartz, associate director at the Center for Democracy and Technology, a nonprofit group that advocates for Internet privacy."
